TONCA is known as an entertainer in the northeastern Caribbean. His original, worldbeat music, performed with the band Friends, delivers strong messages about peace, love, injustice and the environment in a rockers/reggae style. The young are urged to stay in school and avoid drugs. Progress is celebrated, liars are exposed and courage is given. TONCA is proud and is a father of many children. He maintains physical fitness due to his love for jogging, swimming and healthy eating and being very devoted in his beliefs that Jah is The Almighty God in whom, one day, we all will believe. TONCA was born in the Lesser Antilles, we sometimes call the Netherlands Antilles. He's an adopted child brought up by a foster parent who he has devoted much of his love to, due to their beliefs in love and peace. TONCA’s performing began by serenading very young, knowing during those times, depression was scattered all through the West Indies and that live music was very vital to the West Indies and the survival of the musicians, which is why his last album is called "Revival of the Fittest" and he hopes you all will like it! In 2001 "Take Me Back" and "You, Mustang Sally" from the "For You Only" album hit MP3.com's Roots Reggae Top Ten and Reggae Top Forty, as well as "Jah Jah Will Unite Us". Autobiographical and title track "Committed to Jah" continues to attract interest, after holding top ten positions and awards at various sites and being in four compilation CDs. Christmas 2000 saw the inclusion of lively and up-beat “Merry Christmas Everybody!” in Mp3.com's Official Holiday Music 2000, featured on their 'Caribbean Holiday 2000' and 'Christmas 2000' radio stations. "Mr. DJ", a "Jah Jah Will Unite Us" track, was a chart-topper in 2000, often in MP3.com's Roots Reggae Top Forty and FranceMP3.com's Reggae Top Ten, alongside "Take Me Back". In Nov. 2000, "Kiss, Kiss, Kiss", a "For You Only" track, accompanied the 'A Kiss From Me' card, one of MP3.com's Musical Greeting Cards. From "Peace in the East", the rebel album, several tracks have caught on, but mostly “Stop The Wars”. Favorite tracks on “Are You Hearing Us Now?”, the most accusatory album, are angry "Back Off!", "You Started the Fire" and "It's Our Planet". Title track "Jah Jah Will Unite Us" - the name speaks for itself and the beat is irresistable - has been a hit from the word 'Go!' TONCA did his first album in Jamaica, along with some friends that he met in Jamaica in the Tuff Gong Studio and he gives many thanks to Tyrone Downie who was a house musician for Tuff Gong Studio, and who TONCA and Friends enjoyed good times with. Single “St. Maarten Is Nice” has been aired daily by local radio - it almost sounded like an anthem for the island of St. Maarten due to the compliments TONCA sang to the island - it still remains one of St. Maarten's favorite songs. Friends band are Antilleans with American back-up singers that TONCA always prefers to perform with. Some of the members are Ronald Warren on keyboard, Roelof ‘Basses’ Matthew on bass, Anthony ‘Buggs’ Wilson on drums, Alvin Hodge on guitar, Tony Thewet on horns and synth, Erwin James on percussion. Backup vocalists are Vanessa Edwards, Celeste Holmes and Linda Lee Hopkins.
