With a mixtape set to drop on February 15, his birthday, roots artist Teflon Young King is eager to perform at Cali Vibes Fest, scheduled for February 16 - 18 in Long Beach, California.
The singer is on the first day with heavyweight acts such as Sublime and Sean Paul. He sees it as a great platform to launch a busy year and new music.
"Cali Fest is a tremendous event to expose talent and to showcase your new work in front of a wider audience. It will not only get new fans but will pull the fans closer to the roots that they have been waiting for," said Teflon Young King.
In the week leading to Cali Vibes Fest, he has done a handful of dates in the Golden State. He has used them to showcase songs from Light Through The Darkness, his pending EP.
While busy recording songs for that project, Teflon Young King has been active on the show circuit in the past 18 months. He has performed in Florida, Northern California, Oregon, Canada and Jamaica.
Pressing the flesh, especially when promoting new music, is critical.
"Live shows is everything we know and are used to. Live shows are the roots," he noted.
Last year, Teflon Young King released Underated, an album co-produced by Yard A Love Records, Mafiezee Records and AC Muzyk LLC. He is currently promoting the songs Kungo, Brimstone and Mankind.
Teflon Young King is from St. Mary, a hilly parish in eastern Jamaica. He has been singing since childhood, representing St. Mary in regional talent contests.
Although first held in 2022, Cali Vibes Fest has fast become a major festival, boasting an eclectic lineup of marquee artists. This year's features another strong card including Shaggy, Inner Circle, Kabaka Pyramid, Ice Cube, The Pharcyde, Gwen Stefani, Collie Buddz and Stephen Marley.
