************************************************************************ To the extended family of the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival 2002: ************************************************************************ Sierra Nevada World Music Festival gives thanks to all the Artists, Vendors, Sponsors, Staff, Volunteers, and most of all to YOU, the Public for making SNWMF 2002 a beautiful and successful event! The staff and volunteers went above and beyond to make it a great event, and to the loyal ticket-buyers, we thank you for your support. We are in the business of promoting artists, not of showing their shortfalls or creating negative publicity in our industry. That being said, we owe it to our audience to explain the truth behind each incident that plagued our artistic lineup at this year's Festival. SNWMF deeply regrets that Sizzla, Coco Tea, Marcia Griffiths and Leroy Sibbles did not make it to SNWMF 2002. Each had an individual reason why they did not come, and all of these major changes happened less than a week out from the show. Most occurred AFTER the show had already commenced. SIZZLA: Contracts were signed and deposits paid in May. One week before the show we were informed by Xterminator Management that Sizzla had legal / court issues in Jamaica, which prohibited him from leaving Jamaica. As soon as the news of Sizzla reached us (Monday June 17), we posted it to the festival website. It is always our first priority that the public knows the truth, and we would never attempt to misrepresent the Festival's lineup. COCO TEA: We were informed by Coco Tea's management, AO Management, on Thursday night that he had arrived 20 minutes late for his flight, and had missed it. They then promised that he would take the following day's flight, and we rescheduled Coco Tea's set for Saturday. It wasn't until Saturday that we learned that he had not taken that flight either. We had purchased two separate sets of air tickets for Coco Tea's entourage, at their request, and paid a substantial advance to AO Management. To this date we do not have a satisfactory explanation from AO Management as to why he did not appear, and the advance has NOT been returned. MARCIA GRIFFITHS: Marcia apparently missed her flight. The date was confirmed on March 4, 2002. We were the anchor date for a road tour. The tour subsequently fell through. As a result of this, the Festival agreed to provide air tickets. A deposit was paid upon request. Twelve of the 14 people in Marcia's entourage flew in to the Festival. Marcia and her manager were the only no-shows. It is also our understanding that Marcia refuses to fly on American Airlines. LEROY SIBBLES: Leroy confirmed the date on January 18, 2002. The deposit was paid, and the air tickets were purchased. It was through Leroy that we hired Fab 5, and they are as puzzled as we are about Leroy's non-attendence. In the nine years that the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival has been in existence, it has never suffered such upsets to the lineup. We had never lost a headliner, much less four acts in the same year. We had 42 bands this year, 20 of which were flying in exclusively for our festival. 41 acts were presented. BIG UPS TO BARRINGTON LEVY AND DON CARLOS, who came on board at the last minute and presented the crowds with phenomenal performances!! Please visit our website for more information, including a photo gallery of this year's show, and highlights from past years. Thank you once again for your continued support, and we look forward to giving you a fantastic show next year at SNWMF 2003 for our 10th Anniversary Festival! One Love from SNWMF! May Peace and Music Prevail. SIERRA NEVADA WORLD MUSIC FESTIVAL P.O. BOX 208 - RYDE, CA 95680
