From: Wendy Russell, RAW#124, ReggaeW@aol.com Want to book MIKEY DREAD? or TRISTAN PALMA? or BERNARD COLLINS? Three great reggae artists... MIKEY DREAD, as well as being a reggae artist and producer withinternational recognition, may best be known as the pioneer of reggae broadcasting worldwide. Beginning in his hometown of Port Antonio, JA as selector/DJ for his sound systems, Safari and Sounds of Music, he graduated from Jamaica's College of Arts, Science and Technology before taking his landmark job at the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation (JBC) radio and network in 1976. It was here he developed his Dread At The Controls label and trademark. His production expertise has helped launched many artists, from Earl 16, Edi Fitzroy, Rod Taylor and the Roots Radics Band to the The Clash, UB 40, Japanese rock band Anarchy and stretches through the late 70's into the 80's. Robbed of his royaltiesby certain record labels he then decides to take back control of his life and music. He continued writing and recording for the next few years but kept a low profile until all existing contracts expired on his music. He also went back to school in Florida, adding a Bachelor Of Arts Degree in Communication. His latestcd, "New World Tour" is his first release in ten years and is released on hisown Dread At The Controls label. His stage appearances around the USA this past summer of 2001 garnered raves for his irie roots and culture consciousness, proving Mikey Dread is still the Dread At The Controls! MIKEY DREAD, flies in from Florida and is backed by the legendary, and USA-based, Fully Fullwood Band, including the Scientist on 'sound'. TRISTON PALMA began singing back up vocals in Jamaica at age ten, beginning work with the Soul Syndicate, working with the likes of Tony Tuff (African Brothers), Freddie MacGregor, Bunny Lee, Jah Thomas and others whileforging a lifelong bond with Sugar Minott, first as mentor, then as friend and artist. His many hit songs range from "Splifftail" to "Entertainment" to "Raving"to "Health and Strength" to "Two Roads, (Which Will You Choose?)"--from the good times to the spiritual times he can entertain your crowd! TristonPalma flies in from Jamaica and performs with a 5 man USA-based band; JahSoldiers, featuring Soul Syndicate's drummer, Santa Davis. He has many currentreleases on big labels. His next album comes out this spring. BERNARD SATTA COLLINS has very deep roots on our reggae family tree. As the original lead singer of the Abyssinians, (In Jamaica he is still legally the Abyssinians), he anchored one of reggae's greatest trios on their most classic tracks such as "Satta Massagana" (also widely regarded as reggae's anthem), "Declaration Of Rights" and "Y Mas Gan". He rocked the stage at Sierra Nevada World Music Festival 2001, which was his first solo USA appearance -- now he is ready to rock YOUR stage with the irie roots! His latest cd is "The Last Days". Bernard Collins and lead guitarist, Brian Silverman, travel from Jamaica for appearances, to be backed by musicians based in California. so... three wise men, Artists of musical strength and power, and I am sure that one, two-- or all three!-- could bring crowds to your 2002 event, fitting your event's style and vision.
