NOTES ON MY TRANSCRIPTION: I was listening to my vinyl copy as I wrote; I couldn't understand a couple of the place names, so, if you can decipher them or if I made any mistakes, please help me out. From the album, "Equal Rights" (c) 1977, by Peter Tosh "African" Don't care where you come from, As long as you're a black man you're an African. Don't mind your nationality, you have got the identity, of an African. Cause if you come from Florida(??), or if you come from Portland, and if you come from Westmorland you are an African. Don't care where you come from, As long as you're a black man you're an African. Don't mind your nationality, you have got the identity, of an African. But if you come from Trinidad, or if you come from Nassau, and if you come from Cuba you are an African. Don't care where you come from, As long as you're a black man you're an African. Don't mind your complexion, there is no rejection, you're an African. Cause if your 'plexion high, high, high, high, and if your 'plexion low, low, and if your 'plexion in between, you're an African. Don't care where you come from, As long as you're a black man you're an African. Don't mind denomination, that is only segregation, you are an African. Cause if you go to the Catholic, and if you go to the Methodist, and if you go to church of course you're an African. Don't care where you come from, As long as you're a black man you're an African. Don't mind your nationality, you have got the identity, of an African. And if you come from Bridgetown And if you come from Green Bay And if you come from ? And if you come from Bronx And if you come from Brooklyn And if you come from Queens And if you come from ? And if you come from Canada And if you come from Miami And if you come from Switzerlnad And if you come from Germany And if you come from Russia.. ************************************************ The third and fourth stanzas have always particularly impressed me, and would seem to have alot to say about some of the stuff flying around here in recent days; in truth, no matter our complexion or our denomination, there is no rejection, because we were ALL Africans once. -- Bruce Gilbert Internet: BG7601s@ACAD.DRAKE.EDU "Move it along, move it along, folks, .sig's over, nothin' to see here."
